Security forces killed seven rebels in Manipur in separate incidents, after the rebel group ambushed five paramilitary troops earlier. The restive state of Manipur seems to be heading for a major showdown, especially after the northeast Indian state had some lull for quite some time.
Manipur is in news again and the rebel fighters, waging a war against the security forces for a separate homeland for the majority Metei community in the state seem to have gained momentum after a period of lull. The current political and social crisis in neighboring Myanmar seems to have fuelled the zeal in the rebels once again to fight for their goal of an independent autonomous homeland. However, the difference between Myanmar protests and the Manipur situation is that people are fighting for democracy in the former, while it is the opposite in the latter, in which fight against democracy is going on. Yet, the seeds of conspiracy seem to have been sown across the border.
Around 19 rebel groups are fighting in Manipur for an independent homeland and the mutineers are famous for ambush attacks and guerrilla warfare against the security forces. Possessing all the modern day weaponry, the rebels continue to throttle peace in the state, which has been crying for peace, tranquility and harmony ever since the conflict that has claimed thousands of lives began.
Northeast India has always been in news for violence, arson, bombings, kidnappings, abductions and ambushing. It is a different type of terrorism that the country is facing and needs to be reined in to bring peace to one of the most beautiful part of the country.
